After studying abroad and eating his way through Florence this semester, Connor compiles a list of 10 of his favorite places to eat in the city. From grabbing a panini on the go to eating some of the best gnocchi in Florence, check out these recommendations!
Florence is filled with so many amazing places to eat. Nobody has the same exact favorite places because there are just so many to choose from. Regardless, in this blog post I am going to list my personal 10 favorite places to eat around Florence. This includes all types of food, from nice restaurants to gelato shops to cafes. I will give you an inside look at what food I think is the best in Florence, and, to me, what are some of the best in the world.
10. Almentari Liberio e Luana
Prosciutto and mozzarella panini!
This is simple but great place to go to get a panini. They do not stuff the sandwiches with many different ingredients, and that allows for you to really taste and enjoy what is in the sandwich. I get a panini with just prosciutto (ham) and mozzarella. This is more than enough to satisfy my taste buds and my hunger for lunch.
9. Kitsch (For Aperitivo)
Kitsch is a small restaurant located on the outskirts of the city center. It is a great place to go to for Aperitivo. For any of my readers who have never heard of an Aperitivo before, it is a deal that usually runs from 6-8 pm in Florence where you order a drink at a restaurant (usually around €7) and with that drink you get access to an all you can eat buffet. Kitsch's buffet includes finger sandwiches, pizza, cheese platters, deli meats, and much more.
8. La Loggia degli Albizi
A pastry with coffee is the perfect midday pick-me-up.
La Loggia degli Albizi is my personal favorite cafe in Florence. Located less than 2 minutes away from the CAPA center, it is convenient to go to on the way to class or on your coffee breaks during class. I often get a cappuccino or espresso with a delicious pastry.
7. Za Za Restaurant
Za Za is a nice restaurant where you can go and sit outside with friends and family. The menu is big so there are a lot of options and the service is spectacular. I got their spaghetti with meat sauce there and it was some of my favorite pasta I have had since arriving in Florence.
6. Gelateria dei Neri
A small gelato here only costs €1.70!
Having tried over 10 different gelato shops around Florence (there is one on almost every street), Gelateria dei Neri is my favorite one. Having a variety of flavors for an extremely reasonable price, it is impossible to go wrong. My personal favorite flavor is chocolate with fragola (strawberry).
5. La Murate
La Murate is my favorite Aperitivo place in Florence. It has a great outdoor sitting area with long tables and a nice atmosphere. With a student ID card, you can get a drink and access to an all-you-can-eat buffet for €6. This buffet includes a variety of pasta, finger sandwiches, cheese, and a choice of several different meats.
4. Pizza Man
You cannot go wrong with a simple Margherita pizza!
You can’t have a "Top 10 Food Places in Florence" list without having a place like this included in the list. Pizza Man is a perfect place to go for pizza. The crust is light and the cheese and sauce are flavorful. I usually get a pepperoni pizza and finish it by myself.
3. Osteria dei Pazzi
This restaurant was where CAPA held it’s "Welcome Dinner" for all of its students at the beginning of the semester. It is still one of the best meals I have had since being in Florence. I had several different antipasti dishes including my favorite dish which is bread with tomato, basil, and mozzarella on top.
2. Primi Piatti
Best panini in Florence!
This is a panini shop right in the heart of Florence that I go to regularly. The bread is unlike any bread I have ever tasted before. The salami panini with pesto and tomato never disappoints me and is more than worth the €4.
1. Osteria Santa Spirito
World famous gnocchi for lunch.
Great food with an even better view. The gnocchi was the best meal I have eaten since being in Florence so far. This is an awesome place to have a casual dinner, eat amazing food, and have a nice surrounding. Every person who visits Florence should eat here at least once.
It is hard to go wrong with any restaurant, gelato shop, or panini in Florence. All of them have their own unique taste and flavor to them. The best thing to do is be adventurous and try all different types of food and places!
