Elizabeth is an official CAPA blogger for fall 2017, sharing her story in weekly posts on CAPA World. A Communication major at Lasell College, she is studying abroad in Dublin this semester.

In this week's post, Elizabeth gives us an inside look at her internship abroad at Alice PR & Events and how each work day is never the same in Dublin.

---

The days at my internship are never the same. One day I will be compiling data for media coverage reports, while the next I will be traveling around Dublin for photoshoots or events. This semester I am interning at Alice PR & Events and it has been an incredible opportunity to learn about the public relations industry.

When walking into the office you are met with a cute Alice in Wonderland themed poster and a stuffed Cheshire cat. The atmosphere is light and full of excitement. Alice PR & Events is a public relations firm that provides marketing, media relations, social media, and event planning to businesses across Ireland. The company’s clients range from social justice, education, technology, and non-government organizations. Throughout my semester I have been able to work with a variety of clients with different PR needs.

My daily tasks may range per day depending on the requirements of the clients. The fast-paced environment requires you to be ready for anything. From drafting social media posts to working on press releases, the work is constantly changing depending on the day. The variety of tasks has allowed me to understand the depths of a public relations firm and piece together new knowledge of the PR field as a whole. One of my weekly jobs includes writing blog posts for a variety of outlets. I assist with writing a weekly blog about what is happening in the workplace (#WhatTickledAlice) and a technology blog for one of the clients.

One of my favorite weeks at Alice PR was observing the productions of a TEDx event sponsored by a client. I was able to visit the site the day before the event and see the organization process firsthand! After helping with jobs around the auditorium, I was able to experience the aspects of creating a successful function. The next day I was able to attend the event and see the final product that the women in the office had been working tirelessly on. I loved being able to see the audience enjoying the end result of the planning!

When I first arrived in Dublin I was slightly nervous to start a new internship in a new country. The public relations field was outside of my comfort zone, and although I had taken courses relating to the topic, I had never had experienced it. In my time at Alice PR & Events I have been able to dive into the field by doing the work firsthand, and I found a new passion for it! I have been able to understand the full functions of a public relations firm as well as event planning.

One of my favorite aspects of working at Alice PR & Events is that I have the opportunity to work with an amazing group of people. The women at #TeamAlice were extremely welcoming and assisted me with every question I had. After the first few weeks I felt comfortable working in a new field in a foreign country.

With my final internship days coming to an end, I wanted to say thank you to the women at Alice PR for such a memorable and incredible experience. I have learned an abundance of information about the field and appreciate your help with transitioning to a new country. Interning while abroad has allowed me to gain perspective of the workplace in a new country, as well as learn skills that will benefit my future career. I am extremely grateful I have been able to have this wonderful opportunity and the lessons I learned this semester will stay with me when I return back home!

Thanks Elizabeth!

Elizabeth's journey continues every Tuesday so stay tuned.
