A chance to immerse myself in the fashion industry in one of the fashion capitals of the world—that’s something I couldn’t pass up while studying abroad in London. I’m almost two weeks into my internship at fashion label MLML London, and I’m loving it. The team at MLML consists solely of designer/creative director Carlotta Gherzi and head of sales Karina Gregori (and now myself for a few short months). MLML specializes in effortlessly chic and stylish leg wear with an importance on fit and the motivation to make a woman feel and look gorgeous. Leggings are Carlotta’s favorite item because they’re versatile from day to night, sexy yet casual, and comfortable yet unique. And that’s why it’s called MLML or My Love My Leggings. But she also offers skirts and the occasional top—all made of 100 percent real stretch leather from Italy.

and how to make a woman look and feel gorgeous.
As the social media marketing intern, it’s my job to bring ideas to existing social media strategies and implement them. My tasks involve taking and editing photos, crafting social media posts, writing blogs, attending trade and fashion shows, and market research. I’ll also be contacting magazine editors, bloggers and influencers to get MLML London’s new collection and the remaining products in stock known by more people and sold.
MLML's main offering are leggings, but they also have skirts and the occasional top.
My arrival at the internship proved to be perfect timing. It was a busy time for MLML. My first task was to design the autumn/winter 2018-2019 look book for MLML London’s new collection. Carlotta and Karina had a lot to do, so having me work on creating that allowed them to focus on other issues involving work done at the factory.
First task: create the 2018-2019 MLML look book.
Creating the look book involved editing the photos the photographer took at the photoshoot that was done prior to my arrival. The photos could have been lit better, so I adjusted the lighting. On some photos, I removed sparkles on a sweater to make the outfits look chicer. Everything had to be done within the first few days I was there, and I think we did well with the time we had to create it.
Working on the MLML look book using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Lightroom.
After working with Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom to create the look book, I definitely learned some useful tricks that I’ll take with me in the future. For the front page photo of the look book, I had to change the color of the leggings from red to black. I didn’t know how to do that before, but using selection tools and adjusting the saturation and brightness helped achieve my goal.
All made of 100 percent real stretch leather from Italy.
I can’t wait to continue this internship. It encompasses all of the things I love—fashion, writing and photography. Over the weekend, I’ll have the chance to wear some of MLML London’s leggings out and about and take pictures in them. I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better placement.
Thanks Kelly!
Kelly's journey continues every Wednesday so stay tuned.
