We are excited to announce that the Spring 2020 CAPA Pals program has launched! Find out more about how students who sign up integrate into the CAPA community and develop a support network before they arrive in country.
What is CAPA Pals?
CAPA Pals provides CAPA students with the opportunity to make a friend BEFORE they go abroad (during the pre-departure process), that they can meet up with once they arrive in country. Students - whether you are a first-time traveler, looking to make friends prior to arrival, or just want a support system as you navigate the process of preparing to live abroad— this program would be a good fit for you!
Why did we launch this program?
We developed this program in direct response to feedback from past students—both from students who joined our programs as the only student from their home university, and those who joined the programs with many other students from their school. CAPA Pals allows students to meet people outside of their classes and accommodation and provides them an opportunity to socialize outside of their existing school group.
Benefits of participation include:
- Additional support
- A friend within the CAPA program from the start
- More advising time with a program manager
- Contact with someone going through the same process to help stay on track
- Access to an in-country reception for the CAPA Pal group during orientation time
-
And much more!
How to sign up
When CAPA Pal registration opens, we will send all accepted CAPA students an email with a link to register. Students are asked to complete a survey sharing information about their hobbies, passions, and preferences. The CAPA team will match students based on survey responses. Once matched, CAPA will connect the two pals with each other! Our team will also send out information about optional virtual advising sessions for which pals can sign up together.
Past students have said that they felt more secure during the preparation process, and they had an easier time branching out and meeting new people during their programs once they were abroad. We have had 100 students sign up for Spring 2020, and we hope you will consider joining the CAPA Pal community for Summer or Fall 2020!
