Dajia hao! “Hello everyone!”

They say that humans connect with the creation of earth. Only the intuitive mind reaches the understanding of the connections that mankind holds.

Strolling through a park, I sat down by a lake on a rock. It led to a peaceful moment unlike any I had experienced before in my life. As fish stormed towards my feet, multitudes of them jumped with joy as water splashed in my face.

I took a deep breath and savored the sweet smell of jasmine flowers as it rushed through my body. I knew then that it would be a good start to the first week of classes.

Walking on the streets of Shanghai at night with friends, I saw a band playing. I dropped money into their bag not knowing that it would lead to them asking me to come up and sing with them.

As I started to sing a song off my new mix tape, I saw was a group of people run up and start dancing. That lead to another song, and the group kept asking for another one and another one! I couldn’t say no, so I kept going. A huge crowd had gathered and started putting more money into the bag. It was one of those moments when you just had to be there to see how incredible it was.

Monday morning came soon enough. I woke up, brushed my teeth and washed my face, excited to start my first day of class.

The Chinese language is full of tones and diction. As the teacher walks in with a huge smile on her face, she says, “Are you Daniel? I heard you rap and my favorite rapper is J. Cole.” I began to sing the melody to "Love Yours" and she jumped up with excitement as the classroom filled with giggles.

I love my new world and I hope one day you will come visit Shanghai if you have not been already.

Thanks Daniel!

Daniel's journey continues every Thursday so stay tuned.
