This week, Emma shares the inside scoop on what her living situation was like in Sydney. Find out more about her accommodations and the lively and beautiful surrounding neighborhood of Pyrmont, right outside of Darling Harbor!
This semester, the students in the CAPA Sydney Study Abroad Program were placed in a different living situation than last semester*. We live in Oaks Goldsborough in Pyrmont right outside of Darling Harbor (Pretty much the place to be in Sydney). Our apartment building is about a 10-15-minute walk to the train station in the CBD that will take you anywhere you want in Sydney! We are only a five-minute walk from the Harbor that has a bunch of restaurants, a nice mall, a Ferris wheel, a zoo, a couple museums, and more!
We are a five minute walk away from Darling Harbor.
Oaks Goldsborough itself is a better living situation that I have had in my entire life. It is a working hotel, so you share the building with people on holiday including families and others from all over the world. There are always new people checking in to the hotel with their massive bags. Living in a hotel definitely has its perks! The front desk provides us with just about everything we need. Toilet paper, dish soap, laundry detergent, towels, and more. There is a pool, sauna and a small gym that includes just the basics. There are a small variety of cardio and weight machines to choose from along with some free weights. A lot of students have opted to join a local gym since there is not much to choose from in the one provided to us and gets humid being next to the pool. Another great luxury we have living in a hotel is a weekly cleaning service. Each Wednesday our towels and linens are changed for us along with a whole tidy up of the entire apartment. It is very nice to have this especially with our busy schedules where we don’t have much time to thoroughly clean our apartment on our own!
We live 30 minutes to 1 hour from most beaches. Pictured is one of my favorites, Bronte Beach!
Our apartment is set up with two bedrooms each with two twin beds in it (you will be living with a roommate) and our room is lucky enough to have a fantastic view of the city! Each room also has its own bathroom and shower and lots of closet space which is nice to store all of our luggage that we took abroad. Both bedrooms are located downstairs, upstairs we have a nice common area with seating a TV provided to us with basic cable. We decided to invest in an HDMI cord as well so we can stream movies on it! The kitchen is fully stocked with all the supplies you need for the next few months. We have a hot pot kettle, a toaster, microwave, stove, stove top, and refrigerator. The only thing missing we decided that we needed was a blender, so we bought one to share while we are here.
This is the great view that we have from our common area and bedroom!
CAPA does a great job of keeping students together so we can meet people and hangout easier. We are all in the same building and are split about evenly on two floors. The farthest a friend on your program will be is an elevator ride away! There are always people to walk to class with or get food with just a few minutes away which really helps make the abroad experience great!
The light rail takes you right to ChinaTown in 10 minutes!
*The specific locations of the apartments may change from term to term in Sydney depending on availability, but they all meet the same high CAPA quality standards.
