Meet Maggie Courtney (she/her), an official CAPA vlogger in London, England for Summer 2022:
University: University of Missouri
Major: Journalism (Strategic Communication) and Sociology
Study Abroad Location: London, England
Internship Placement: Raindance Film Festival
What are you most excited for during your study abroad semester?
I am so excited to experience everything London has to offer! My internship is located in a really exciting area of London; Buckingham Palace is a 20-minute walk away and there are so many shops and cool things to see in an area that I know I will be spending a lot of time in. I look forward to exploring the city and experiencing the art culture in London, too!
What are three of your hobbies and interests?
I love to read, watch movies (especially in movie theaters!), and go to concerts and live shows!
What’s one personal goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
I hope to connect with new people and experience everything London has to offer! I also hope to build on my ability to thrive independently and navigate a new city on my own.
What’s one professional goal you hope to achieve during your CAPA program?
Through my internship, I hope to explore more about how my degree in strategic communication can intersect with the entertainment industry as a whole and figure out where my passion lies in the field. The opportunity to work with Raindance is so exciting and offers many opportunities for me to use the skills I have learned in my classes in the real world and showcase rising artists in the film industry.
What can we look forward to seeing in your posts?
I plan on exploring all of the bookstores, coffee shops, landmarks, live theatre/concerts, and hidden gems London has to offer. I will also be taking a few weekend trips with friends that I hope to show, too! Overall, I hope to learn enough that I can give advice to students considering studying abroad and share my authentic experiences in another country
Anything else you'd like to say to people reading/watching for the first time?
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to learn and share my experience abroad—can’t wait to begin!
