Sarah GrahamMeet Sarah Graham, an official CAPA blogger in Florence, Italy for Fall 2019:

University: University of Massachusetts Amherst
Major: English
Study abroad location: Florence, Italy
Internship or volunteer placement: N/A

What are you most excited for during your study abroad semester?
I have never left the US before, so I’m really excited to travel Europe independently. I’m excited to meet new people and get to know Florence as a city.

What are three of your hobbies and interests?
I love to read, and I have an interest in the history of literature. As a political science minor, I have an interest in politics. I also like to spend time with my friends, so I’m looking forward to making new friends abroad.

What’s one personal goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
I’ve never really traveled independently before, so I hope to be able to travel via trains, planes, buses, etc... without difficulty by the time I return home. I want to feel like I know what I’m doing, not just running around aimlessly. This is especially true about flying. Overall, I hope to become more of an experienced traveler.

What’s one professional goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
I hope to take the course, “Writing the Global City: Florence Reading and Creative Travel Writing,” which I hope will help me work on my writing skills. This course could also satisfy credits for my specialization in the study and practice of writing at my home institution.

What can we look forward to seeing in your posts?
I’d say you can look forward to my honest telling of my experience abroad. I want to blog about topics that will be helpful to a future CAPA student. I hope to cover a range of topics that will be both informative and fun to read.

Anything else you’d like to say to people reading for the first time?
I’m a person who genuinely loves to learn. I hope to convey my experience abroad while learning about the history of Florence as a city socially, politically, and artistically.
