CAPA_SaraRountree_BuenosAires_Headshot-1.pngMeet Sally Rountree, an official CAPA blogger in Buenos Aires for summer 2017:

University: Simmons College
Major: Sociology major and Public Health minor
Study abroad location: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Internship or volunteer placement: N/A

What are you most excited for during your study abroad semester?
I am most excited to see people tango and to learn how to Tango. I have heard that on Sunday afternoons there are huge tango parties at a central square where everyone gathers and dances. Professionals and newbies all dance together.

What are three of your hobbies and interests?
In my free time I like to play the ukulele and go hiking. I am also really interested in health so I spend a lot of time researching it.

What’s one personal goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
I hope to really engage with the new culture and not just observe it from afar. I want to become connected to the community and take advantage of all the opportunities I'll have there. I know it can be really intimidating to go abroad, especially because I don’t know the language, so I really hope I am able to fully immerse myself.

What’s one professional goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
A professional goal I have is to connect previous classroom teachings to what I am seeing in Argentina. We are going on several site visits where we will be in health care settings. I hope to be able to connect these experiences to things I will learn in the classroom there and to things I have already learned in my public health and sociology classes.

What can we look forward to reading about in your posts?
You can look forward to reading about exciting events, Argentinian traditions like their National holiday and tango parties, and a bit about their health services. I will include anything that surprises me or I find interesting, so hopefully you will too!

Anything else you’d like to say to people reading for the first time?
I am super excited for the opportunity to go to Argentina and very thankful. I want all of my readers to get a true insight into life in Argentina and my study abroad experience.
