Meet Hannah Hardenbergh, an official CAPA blogger in Florence for summer 2018:
University: Harvard College
Major: American History and Literature with a minor in Studio Art
Study abroad location: Florence, Italy
What are you most excited for during your study abroad semester?
Enjoying Italian cuisine and getting to explore the cultural depths of an old, historic city.
What are three of your hobbies and interests?
I love hiking, mountain biking, reading, and painting. I am also interested in design and minimal art.
What’s one personal goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
I want to learn Italian as best as I can in the short time that I am in Florence to be able to converse with locals on a daily basis.
What’s one professional goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
I would like to challenge my understanding of space and depth in visual art by learning to represent life around me through the values of a pencil rather than paint. Experiencing a space and learning to transcribe its qualities onto paper and canvas is invaluable to my perception of our world. I also hope to return to campus in the fall with a perspective of European-based art history that may influence my current focus within western art and culture.
What can we look forward to reading about in your posts?
I am very excited to describe sights in Florence as well as in unique parts of Italy - the coast, the northern mountains, and more. Beyond sightseeing, I hope to share my understanding of Florentine culture with you as I learn from locals, and visit a lot of art-related events and exhibitions!
Anything else you’d like to say to people reading for the first time?
I tend to enjoy the small details of my days, and hope to share not only my travels and exciting events happening in Florence, but occasionally what happens in between as well. I also live a very active lifestyle and want to share my adventures!
