John ValvoMeet John Valvo, an official CAPA vlogger in Dublin, Ireland* for Spring 2020:

University: Providence College
Major:  Finance
Study Abroad Location: Dublin, Ireland (formerly Shanghai)
Internship or volunteer placement: TBC

What are you most excited for during your study abroad semester?
For my semester abroad in Shanghai I am most excited about traveling around the city. I think it will be super fascinating finding fun things to do around the city and making new friends. Being able to travel deeper into the city for my internship will allow me to experience what it is like to live and work in a large city.

What are three of your hobbies and interests?
My number one hobby is exercising because it gives my mind a break from everyday life and allows me to maintain a good habit wherever I go. I also enjoy videography because it makes me think more creatively while also allowing me to document my life. My last hobby is watching sports with my friends and family.

What’s one personal goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
When I am abroad I would like to be able to spend more time on videography and vlogging. I feel that people often get caught up with their everyday life and don’t spend enough time on things they actually enjoy. This experience will give me the opportunity to document new experiences.

What’s one professional goal you hope to achieve while abroad?
The main professional goal I would like to experience while abroad is getting experience in investment banking, venture capital, or asset management. I would like to move to NYC after school so Shanghai will help me get exposure to big city living and banking. Getting in the habit of working a financial job in a large city will give me the experience I need for when I graduate.

What can we look forward to seeing in your videos?
In my vlogs I hope to document what it is really like to study abroad in Shanghai while working. I think that many people aren’t exposed to the day-to-day life of a student in Shanghai. I want to show everything from the adventures and traveling all the way down to the more monotonous everyday actions.

Anything else you’d like to say to people reading about you for the first time?
I am excited to document my experience and hope others enjoy!
