In this week's post, Connor takes advantage of another CAPA excursion and goes on a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano, discovering sights like the medieval baths, trying the world's best gelato, and learning more about the local traditions of these two Tuscan cities.

Ciao! This past week CAPA invited all of its students here on a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano. Transportation was already paid for and we were even provided with tour guides. It was a no-brainer to go.

Meeting Italian Students through CAPA's FriendMe Program

Oct 16, 2018 1:30:00 PM / by Connor McGlone

In this week's post, Connor highlights a CAPA Florence program called 'FriendMe' in which local high school students from Florence meet with CAPA students and swap stories about what it's like to growing up in Italy vs the US.

Ciao! I just got back to my flat from one of the best experiences I have had so far while studying abroad. Set up by CAPA, I was able to meet and hangout with local Florentine high school students with my peers. The program is called 'FriendMe'. This was an amazing way to meet locals around my age and make new friends.

I was initially kind of nervous about the program. I did not know what I had in common with students from Florence. I know very limited Italian so I did not even know if we would be able to understand and talk to each other. However, these concerns went away very quickly.

Sep 25, 2018 4:30:00 PM / by Connor McGlone

Connor McGlone is an official CAPA blogger for fall 2018, sharing his story in weekly posts on CAPA World. A Marketing and Supply Chain Management major at  University of Pittsburgh, he is studying abroad in Florence this semester.

In this week's post, Connor recaps his experience participating in CAPA Florence My Global City events. From discovering secret facts about historical Florence during a guided tour, to hiking a mountain at sunset, follow along on his Italian adventures!

One of the best things to take advantage of in the CAPA program are the My Global City events that CAPA organizes. A My Global City event is an activity such as a boat ride around Florence, tastes of different eateries, or a hike to certain hot spots in the city. These events allow the students to discover more about their new city and meet new people along the way. These pre-planned and well-organized events take the stress out of trying to plan something fun to do, as all that is required from the students is to sign up. This past week I was lucky enough to go on two My Global City events. Both events helped me to see the beauty of Florence while learning more about the city itself.
