Oh, it’s been a long weekend. Like, seriously a long one. The first Monday of October in New South Wales in Australia is a Labor Day. So, we were given an extra day off to do our usual study abroad adventures. But first, let me start by sharing something very cool with you.

Remember a couple of posts ago when I shared my internship experience? Well, it has been another two weeks after that, and I am even more fascinated with the company and people I work with. Most recently, House Of Brand conducted a biometric research for one of the film companies.

It has been three weeks since the CAPA Sydney students began their internships. I have so many emotions and thoughts inside that I think it's time for me to share them with you.

Sooo…I am interning with the House of Brand Group (HOB), a marketing research company. Ever since the first day, I have felt like I was in the right place. In my marketing classes, besides learning about brand image, I also learned the importance of creating corporate culture, which I like to think of as “the brand’s inner personality.” The mission and environment of HOB is exactly a place I could see myself fitting in. Along with the positive atmosphere, I am also fascinated by my coworkers' attitudes and dedication. Working among so many talented and diverse personalities does not only harvest good results for the business, but it also helps me challenge my thinking. Talking to people around me and observing their work and everyday life in general helps me reflect how I can develop and grow.

My Last Weekend in Sydney: Organizing a Mashay Event

In this week's post, Shayanna tells us about an event she organized for her internship placement at Mashay.

---

When I first came to Sydney, I didn’t know what to expect. The same can be said when I started interning with Mashay. If someone asked me six weeks ago if I thought I could plan an event, I don’t think I would’ve said yes, but I can happily say that during my last weekend in Sydney that’s exactly what I did.

Since the new and improved version of Mashay launched, we’ve been brainstorming on how we can get more people to download the app and book one of the many unique experiences available such as axe throwing, art workshops, and cooking classes. As a Public Relations/ Marketing major, this was both extremely fun and challenging. With the help of my supervisor Rob, the CEO and co-founder of Mashay, I helped organize a game of bubble soccer and barbeque with several other students in the CAPA program.

Hey, CAPA fam! Welcome back to my blog.

I’ve officially been interning for Mashay, an up-and-coming social media app, for over a week now and already have so much to share with you. To start off, Mashay is an app that aims to connect users with other likeminded individuals by providing a platform that offers unique local activities in Sydney that can be shared with large groups of people. These experiences range from wine crafting to live music events to axe-throwing and are all in collaboration with local businesses throughout the city. Mashay’s experiences deviate from the typical mainstream activities that pop up when you do a Google search, allowing users to really get an authentic feel for Sydney’s lifestyle- or as we would say, #mashout like the locals. The app is set to launch sometime next week which is really exciting! I’m glad to have started at such an integral time.

Interning in a Unique Industry: My Time With FoodFaith

Jun 6, 2017 2:30:00 PM / by Julie Ritz

In this week's post, Skylee tells us about her internship at FoodFaith, and how it differs from what she expected.

---

Update on my adventures in Sydney: I started my internship with FoodFaith on Monday, June 29 (Australian time). I don’t know how many times I have said that it is nothing like what I had imagined. I work as a public relations and event planning intern for my boss, CEO Judy Friedlander. To give a little context, FoodFaith is a nonprofit organization that utilizes environmental sustainability and food practices to achieve religious and social cohesion. I never really expected to be in this industry, but I think it’s really helping me to push my creative boundaries.

Judy Friedlander is nothing short of an incredible woman. She’s strong-headed, caring, persuasive and incredibly intelligent. She is a mother of two and she treats me and the other intern Haley as if we were her “visiting children” who just so happen to work for her. I am honestly lucky to work my first internship with her as I am learning so much more than I thought I would.
