An Unforgettable Entertainment Marketing Internship with Sydney's Ticketek

Nov 27, 2018 11:00:00 AM / by CAPA Study Abroad Ambassadors

In this post, Kaitlin shares her experience interning abroad for an entertainment company in Sydney and some key takeaways from her internship.

When I think about my time studying abroad in Sydney, Australia, my mind immediately wanders to one thing: my unbelievable internship. Of course, I had an incredible time wandering through the beautiful global city, the Sydney Harbor, the beaches, the mountains, and the various popular destinations, but my internship truly changed my experience abroad. In Sydney, I was an Entertainment and Sport Marketing intern for Ticketek, the largest ticketing and live entertainment provider in Australia and New Zealand. To give you a little background, my dream is to work in the entertainment industry later in life, and this internship was my first opportunity to get my foot in the door! So basically, it was an extremely big deal for me, and I could not have been more excited when I received my placement with Ticketek!

How I Grew Academically, Professionally, and Personally in Sydney

Oct 8, 2018 10:30:00 AM / by Sydney Alderman

Sydney Alderman

Sydney Alderman is an official CAPA blogger, sharing her story on CAPA World. A Marketing and Global Management major at the University of Pittsburgh, she is studying abroad in Sydney.

In today's post, Sydney reflects on her experiences abroad and how she has grown over her semester abroad in Sydney, as well as how her internship was beneficial for her future.

---

My 6 weeks in Sydney were both the fastest and slowest 6 weeks of my life. Whenever someone would mention how much time we had left, we would all be surprised how little that amount was, but also wonder how we had been there for so long when it felt like we had only arrived the day before. Since I’ve been home, I’ve had a little time to reflect on this journey and my experiences. I think I was able to grow not only academically and professionally, but also personally as well.

On a Boat

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I really had a good time in my Sports Marketing class, and I think this solidified that at some point in my career, I would love to work in the sports industry. I think it also confirmed that marketing has been the right choice for my major. I enjoyed and felt very capable when researching and writing proposals on solutions for marketing problems. My time as an intern at Ordermentum was also very beneficial. Even though I learned what kind of work that I loved doing through that experience, it also made me more well-rounded as a marketing candidate; I can be more confident when applying to various positions in the future.

A Marketing Internship at Ordermentum in Sydney

Sep 29, 2018 11:30:00 AM / by Sydney Alderman

Sydney Alderman is an official CAPA blogger, sharing her story on CAPA World. A Marketing and Global Management major at the University of Pittsburgh, she is studying abroad in Sydney.

In today's post, Sydney talks about her marketing internship experience with software company Ordermentum, what her responsibilities were, and how she adjusted to the Australian work environment.

---

While studying abroad in Sydney, I decided to do an internship along with my classes. Ordermentum is the company I intern with. It is a Software as a Service (SaaS) order management system for wholesalers and distributors in the food and beverage industry (specifically coffee, bread and patisserie, and dairy). It's located right by Sydney Harbour, so I would get off the train at Circular Quay and pass the Sydney Opera House on my way to my internship site every day. On nice, sunny days I would walk a few minutes to the harbor for lunch and watch the boats come in as I ate, and then walk back to the office and see it all through the window as I interned.

With Coworkers from My Internship at Ordermentum

During my time as an Ordermentum intern, I was in charge of the email marketing strategy and content creation. I really looked forward to coming up with the strategy; it was the area I enjoyed the most. I was also actually producing the newsletters, designs, and promotions that would be sent to their customers and potential clients.

Oh, it’s been a long weekend. Like, seriously a long one. The first Monday of October in New South Wales in Australia is a Labor Day. So, we were given an extra day off to do our usual study abroad adventures. But first, let me start by sharing something very cool with you.

Remember a couple of posts ago when I shared my internship experience? Well, it has been another two weeks after that, and I am even more fascinated with the company and people I work with. Most recently, House Of Brand conducted a biometric research for one of the film companies.

It has been three weeks since the CAPA Sydney students began their internships. I have so many emotions and thoughts inside that I think it's time for me to share them with you.

Sooo…I am interning with the House of Brand Group (HOB), a marketing research company. Ever since the first day, I have felt like I was in the right place. In my marketing classes, besides learning about brand image, I also learned the importance of creating corporate culture, which I like to think of as “the brand’s inner personality.” The mission and environment of HOB is exactly a place I could see myself fitting in. Along with the positive atmosphere, I am also fascinated by my coworkers' attitudes and dedication. Working among so many talented and diverse personalities does not only harvest good results for the business, but it also helps me challenge my thinking. Talking to people around me and observing their work and everyday life in general helps me reflect how I can develop and grow.

My Last Weekend in Sydney: Organizing a Mashay Event

In this week's post, Shayanna tells us about an event she organized for her internship placement at Mashay.

---

When I first came to Sydney, I didn’t know what to expect. The same can be said when I started interning with Mashay. If someone asked me six weeks ago if I thought I could plan an event, I don’t think I would’ve said yes, but I can happily say that during my last weekend in Sydney that’s exactly what I did.

Since the new and improved version of Mashay launched, we’ve been brainstorming on how we can get more people to download the app and book one of the many unique experiences available such as axe throwing, art workshops, and cooking classes. As a Public Relations/ Marketing major, this was both extremely fun and challenging. With the help of my supervisor Rob, the CEO and co-founder of Mashay, I helped organize a game of bubble soccer and barbeque with several other students in the CAPA program.

Interning in a Unique Industry: My Time With FoodFaith

Jun 6, 2017 2:30:00 PM / by Julie Ritz

In this week's post, Skylee tells us about her internship at FoodFaith, and how it differs from what she expected.

---

Update on my adventures in Sydney: I started my internship with FoodFaith on Monday, June 29 (Australian time). I don’t know how many times I have said that it is nothing like what I had imagined. I work as a public relations and event planning intern for my boss, CEO Judy Friedlander. To give a little context, FoodFaith is a nonprofit organization that utilizes environmental sustainability and food practices to achieve religious and social cohesion. I never really expected to be in this industry, but I think it’s really helping me to push my creative boundaries.

Judy Friedlander is nothing short of an incredible woman. She’s strong-headed, caring, persuasive and incredibly intelligent. She is a mother of two and she treats me and the other intern Haley as if we were her “visiting children” who just so happen to work for her. I am honestly lucky to work my first internship with her as I am learning so much more than I thought I would.
