As I sit on my couch in front of my Christmas tree, it is difficult to believe I am actually back home in the U.S. Since my plane touched down Saturday night, this is the first moment I have been able to pause and take a moment to reflect on my incredible three months in Dublin.

The most memorable part of my semester would have to be the people.

The last few weeks in Ireland were a blur of finals, assignments, bucket list items, and saying goodbyes. Whether it was visiting favorite restaurants for the final time or stopping in the shops I have walked past every day of the semester, it was a week of soaking in the last drops of Dublin.

For me, fall break was all about taking risks and stepping out of my comfort zone. Originally I planned to go on a week long trip with one of the travel agencies in Florence, but I decided that traveling on my own terms would be a better way to get the most out of this 10-day experience. So, spontaneously I booked my flights to Amsterdam, London, and Barcelona and started doing research on what to do and where to stay in each city.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam was my first and favorite of all my three trips. I arrived late Thursday night and checked into “The Flying Pig Hostel,” which is one of the most popular backpacking hostels in all of Amsterdam. On Friday my friends and I walked around the city and visited the Van Gogh museum.

After a tiring week of classes, I was in desperate need to see the sun. The BFA course schedule often starts us off from 9 am to 10:30 pm, so I definitely needed to find some time to let myself be free from school and studying for a day.

I was off for Brighton at 5:30 am on Friday, early—and I almost regretted it until I stepped off the train and wandered through the sunrise lanes of Brighton. Everything from the white houses to the paler white commercial buildings made the sunshine glow even in some of the smallest always streets in the Lanes.
