Finding Peace with Nature During My Semester in China

Nov 12, 2018 11:45:00 AM / by Nicole Castro

In this post, Nicole talks about her experience visiting Guilin, a city in central China, and how this trip led her to connect with nature.

It wasn’t until the trip to Guilin that I realized my love for nature and how happy I was to be in China. Known for its unique landscape of limestone karst hills, Guilin is a city of world renown natural beauty.

The Guilin trip, organized by East China Normal University, invited all international students to explore the beautiful scenery of the Guangxi Zhuang region. After a nine-hour ride in the bullet train, we started our adventure. We visited the Elephant Trunk, the Longji Terrace, Xingping Town, the Lijiang River, but my favorite place was the Gudong Waterfall.

How to Spend a 10-Day Fall Break in 5 Different Countries

Nov 9, 2018 10:14:00 AM / by Christopher Halka

In this week's post, Christopher recounts his whirlwind Fall break where he traveled to and experienced the cultures of not one, not two, but FIVE different cities in TEN Days!

As my schedule requires me to be busy roughly five days a week, I have found that it has been rather challenging to take off from work to go about and travel for the whole weekend in Europe. Having to average twenty hours a week over the course of the semester has made me focus on honing my time management and planning skills to be able to juggle work, school, and traveling. However, this past week we were off from classes for a mid-semester break and I took full advantage of the opportunity to travel abroad throughout Europe.

One Student's Guide to a Weekend in Glasgow

Oct 16, 2018 11:00:00 AM / by Maisie Haney

In this week's post, Maisie takes a trip up to Glasgow, Scotland, with a few of her friends. Read more about a trip full of unique museums, a tour of the infamous Glengoyne distillery, and the Necropolis.

My interview with Richard Maguire I think was very telling of how the class usually goes; there is loads of name-dropping, we really love what we are talking about, and sometimes you are surprised by things that are not really surprising. For those of you who may be confused about a few things, I wanted to clear up some terms and ideas:

      • Blink 1 8 2: In England, they say “one eight two,” while I would say “one eighty-two.”
      • Trance music: I would just look this up, really.
      • Grime: According to our reliable Wikipedia, it is an electronic dance music genre that developed from electronic genres UK Garage and Jungle, with influence from dancehall, ragga, and hip hop.

The weekend before I interviewed the beloved CAPA instructor, I visited Glasgow with two of my friends who also happen to be studying in London. One of them would say, “If you plan it right, you could do Glasgow in a weekend.” Personally, I wish I had spent three weeks there, just so I could go thrifting everyday and accrue potentially the best sweater collection in the entirety of this world.
