Katelyn is an official CAPA blogger for spring 2018, sharing her story in weekly posts on CAPA World. A Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management major at University of Pittsburgh, she is studying abroad in Sydney this semester.

In her first post, Katelyn writes out 3 separate packing lists to cover what she needs to bring for her semester abroad in Sydney.

Hey everyone I’m Katelyn and I’ll be your spring semester Sydney blogger! If you’re anything like me you’ve been stressed about packing since the day the acceptance emails went out and even more now that it's getting closer. Although I have traveled a lot in the past I’m still guilty of overpacking but I find packing lists very useful to try and keep me on track. I hope that my list helps you decide what to bring or reminds you of things you may have forgotten!

Carry On #1

For my first carry on I decided to bring my regular school backpack as it’s the perfect size for going to class and also in case of any small trips.

I've packed the following:

  • Laptop + Charger
  • Phone + Charger
  • Headphones
  • Boarding Pass
  • Travel Wallet
    • Credit Card
    • Debit Card
    • Cash
    • Insurance Card
    • School ID
    • State ID
  • Passport
  • Visa
    • Copies of Important Documents
  • School supplies
    • Planner
    • Textbooks
    • Notebook
    • Calculator
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snacks & gum

Carry On #2

Instead of bring a carry on suitcase I decided to bring a duffel bag as its easier to handle instead of wheeling two suitcases and a good size for weekend travels.

  • Travel blanket
  • Spare outfits (in case luggage is lost/delayed)
  • Prescriptions
  • Glasses & contacts
  • Adapter
  • Makeup
  • Valuables

Checked Bag

For my checked bag I decided to use compression bags (the ones that you press instead of the vacuum ones in case there’s not a vacuum available when packing to leave) in order to save room while also keeping things organized.

  • Sneakers
    • Socks
  • Flats
  • Sandals
  • Flip Flops
  • Bathing Suits
  • Dresses
  • Rompers
  • Skirts
  • Jeans
  • Leggings
  • Shorts
  • Long Sleeve Shirts
  • Short Sleeve Shirts
  • Tank Tops
  • Pajamas
  • Workout Gear
  • Jackets
  • Rain jacket/umbrella
  • Sweatshirts/sweatpants
  • Dress clothes (for internship)
  • Beach bag
  • Cross body purse
  • Reusable grocery/shopping bag
  • Laundry bag
  • Toiletries
    • For toiletries I decided to bring everything that I use every week incase they are unavailable in Sydney but in travel sizes so by the end of the term they’ll be empty and I’ll have more room in my suitcase for anything that I bought while abroad.

Although getting everything together has been stressful I can’t wait for this new adventure and more importantly to get away from the snow!

Thanks Katelyn!

Katelyn's journey continues every Friday so stay tuned.
